Position of the Altar

The altar is placed in a raised position. Private altars have a footpace that surrounds the altar as one step. It can have more, but the steps need to be odd. The dimensions of the footpace will naturally depend on the size of the altar, but be such that the priest can easily genuflect without extending the right food outside the platform. A minimum depth of 3 feet is suggested.
