Preparation for Total Consecration to the Holy Face of Jesus

How God Draws the Soul into the Purgative, Illuminative, and Unitive Ways

Father Lawrence Carney

What does devotion to the Holy Face look like? How does one live out this devotion every single day? Drawing on Fr. Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange’s The Three Conversions in the Spiritual Life and Three Ages of the Interior Life, Fr. Lawrence Carney III, author of The Secret of the Holy Face: The Devotion Destined to Save Society, guides the serious soul on a journey of spiritual progress through the Purgative, Illuminative, and Unitive Ways. He directs the soul on how to live devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus, as revealed to Sr. Marie de Saint-Pierre. In our current chaotic and stressful world, the interior life needs both peace and unity with God. In addition to the traditional spiritual path, Fr. Carney draws on the great spiritual masters who have had explicit devotion to the Holy Face. He includes several schedules to follow that conclude the consecration on specific feast days. Continue your spiritual growth from other consecrations to this highest consecration, namely, to God Himself. Bring about the Triumph of the Catholic Church, the cause for which Jesus gave the Chaplet of the Holy Face to Sister Saint-Pierre.  Devotion to the Holy Face will bring you into greater intimacy with Our Lord, who humbled Himself so that we may be with Him in eternal Beatitude.

Holy Face Devotion

A devotion was first presented to Sr. Mary of St. Peter in Tours, France in 1843 by our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus revealed to her a powerful devotion He wanted to be established throughout the world – The Holy Face Devotion. The purpose of this Devotion is to make reparation for the sins of the world – specifically the sins of blasphemy, irreverence, and profanation of Sundays and Holy Days. After many years and struggles, the devotion was approved by the Church authorities. The Confraternity of the Holy Face Devotion was established on October 25, 1884, and elevated to an Archconfraternity on October 1, 1885, by Pope Leo XIII.

From the beginning when Jesus revealed His plans to Sr. Mary of St. Peter, it has been an uphill battle for the devotion to be established and to continue. For a period of time, it all but disappeared. “Our Lord warned Sister that the demons would instill some with an aversion toward this devotion. Based on our Lord’s warning, demons may tempt Church members to prevent devotion of the Holy Face of Jesus precisely because it is the most powerful object to fight against modern revolutionary men.” (Fr. Lawrence Carney)

In response to the growing crisis in the Church, Fr. Lawrence Carney was led by the Holy Spirit to establish the League of St. Martin in 2017 to pray for the spread of the Latin Mass and greater reverence for the Divine Liturgies. The League of St. Martin has a devotion to the Holy Face and the Rosary. As a member of the League of St. Martin, enrollment in the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face and the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary are encouraged. A requirement to belong to the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face is to meet once a month as a group to pray prayers from the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face manual. The League of St. Martin assembles once a month as groups around the world to help accomplish this requirement. The groups meet to pray for the Reparation of Blasphemy and Profanation of Sundays and Holy Days - to recoup Catholic Tradition with charity for the salvation of souls.

“I have already told you that I hold you in My hands as an arrow. I now want to hurl this arrow against my enemies. To arm you for the battle ahead, I give you the weapons of my Passion, that is My Cross which these enemies dread, and also the other instruments of My tortures. Go forward to meet those foes with the artlessness of a child, and the bravery of a courageous soldier. Receive this mission the benediction of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” —Revelation to Sr. Mary of St. Peter, Carmelite in Tours, France from our Lord Jesus Christ on March 29, 1847

Arise O Lord, and let Thy enemies be scattered. And let all that hate Thee flee from before Thy Face.

Psalm 67:2
